Hannah and I decided last minute to go into the city. I was feeling an itch to be downtown. It ended up being such a wonderful afternoon.
We were running to try and catch the metro and the doors closed behind Hannah and I was left behind at the station. We laughed as I watched her pull away.
I sat down on the bench and a woman came up and sat next to me. I decided I would try and start a conversation. It was so cool to see I could get pretty far in the conversation with my Italian. But there were some mixups because at one point I thought she was confused and she was saying that I was from Peru. So I said no no I’m from United States from Boston. And then asked her where she was from and she goes… Peru. And I laughed at how confused I actually was. But I just love getting to talk with strangers again.

I caught up to Hannah and we went to the Spanish steps. We walked around the pizza and I got some of the roasted nuts that the men were selling. I looked down at the ground and saw a post card. I thought it was in English but it also looked like French. And said, "Maria, When in Rome” and something else. It had no address and the card was from the New Yorker. I picked it up and decided I would keep it. It felt like a souvenir. When I stood up I saw a woman smiling at me and I gave her a nod like, Why not?!
We went to the steps and watched all the people below while eating our nuts. We decided they looked like brains and have a hint of sweetness to the taste.

While we were sitting two guys from Amsterdam came and sat next to us. They both spoke English so well and told us that they learned from YouTube and know four languages. If only!

We came back just in time for community night. The evening was amazing. A fun dinner and conversation about our ideal super power.
