Two days in Poland. I’ve tried so hard to learn the basic words.

Here’s how I remember:

Good morning - "Dzien dobry" pronounced -Jen doe bra

  • my sister Jen, does braid my hair.

  • Jen, does, braid

  • Jen, doe, bra - She has to braid it in the morning.

Thank you - "Dziekuje" pronounced - Jen coo ya

  • My sister Jen, she’s cool, yeah

  • Jen, cool, ya

  • Jen coo ya - She’d probably say thank you if she heard that.

Less than 48 hours in a country and I can wonder if it’s even worth it. Everyone speaks English anyways. I’m reminded this isn’t true when I apologize after I stumble over the words to the cashier and he says, “It’s fine. It matters that you tried.”

Two words. Two words is all I have. And it matters that I tried.
